Joel Schlessinger MD studies the treatment of acne vulgaris with adapalene 0.1% lotion
Joel Schlessinger MD recently administered a study on the treatment of acne vulgaris with the use of adapalene 0.1% lotion. This study was published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology titled, “Adapalene 0.1% lotion in the treatment of acne vulgaris: results from two placebo-controlled, multicenter, randomized double-blind, clinical studies.”
Acne vulgaris affects roughly 15 percent of the population, as well as up to 85 percent of adolescents and young adults. This study was performed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of adapalene 0.1% lotion versus a lotion vehicle on those people that suffer from acne vulgaris.
Adapalene is a synthetic naphthoic acid derivative that compares to a retinoid. It has demonstrated good clinical efficacy when used with full compliance on patients with acne vulgaris.
Over 2,000 patients were included in two studies comparing the efficacy and safety of using adapalene 0.1% lotion versus the lotion vehicle. It was found that the use of adapalene 0.1% lotion was significantly more effective than the vehicle. It showed significant improvements in the total lesion count and inflammation.
Reports of irritation with the use of adapalene 0.1% lotion was found to be mild or moderate, with only a few cases being severe. It was also found that this formulation was easily spreadable, easily absorbed and pleasant for use.
Joel Schlessinger MD has also taken part in other studies examining the efficacy and safety of adapalene gel 0.1%, in which he found that the formulation was safe and well-tolerated. Learn more about this study performed by Joel Schlessinger MD here.
