Dr. Joel Schlessinger administers study for the treatment of acne vulgarisIn June 2007, Dr. Joel Schlessinger’s study, “Clinical safety and efficacy studies of a novel formulation combining 1.2% clindamycin phosphate and 0.025% tretinoin for the treatment of acne vulgaris,” was published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology.

In this study, Dr. Joel Schlessinger and colleagues administered a combination of 1.2% clindamycin phosphate and 0.025% tretinoin gel to more than 4,500 patients over the age of 12 with severe acne vulgaris.

Clindamycin phosphate is an antibiotic that generally treats infections. It has been proven effective to kill many bacteria that cause acne vulgaris. Tretinoin is the acid form of vitamin A and it is an excellent product for accelerating cellular turnover and minimizing acne lesions.

It was found that this treatment with the combination of these two drugs significantly reduces the count of lesions and improved the patients’ appearance greater than using these drugs separately. The ingredients and the combination of ingredients were well-tolerated on most skin types.

Dr. Joel Schlessinger and his staff performed this study at the Advanced Skin Research Center in Omaha, Neb. If you would like to take part in a study, please visit our website here.
